Hi.
I’m an unconventional scientist. I’m an artist and a fierce idealist. But most of all, I’m a sucker for a good story.
Growing up, I was either in science camp or art camp. College biology classes were followed by carving sculptures in the studio. Still today, every scientific pursuit is supplemented by my innate need for creativity and self-expression.
The past five years working in conservation genomics has shown me that the driving force behind my work is not the technical science, but rather the story at the end. How can DNA unveil the secrets of the world’s smallest porpoise? What would happen if we brought back the wooly mammoth? What can indigenous cultures teach us about protecting the earth?
I continue to pursue the answers to questions like these in an effort to inspire people to invest in something bigger than themselves and to seek innovative solutions that help humans and nature thrive together.
“I have lots of heroes: anyone and everyone who does whatever they can to leave the natural world better than they found it.”
